The combination of petrographic, geochemical and palynologic studies is used in this investigation to unravel the paleoecology of the Stockton in a portion of northeastern Kentucky 2. Procedure Coal was sampled from active mines and from Kentucky Department of Transporta- tion cores and described from roadcut exposures (Fig. 2). e) The Laboratory is a part of office of the General Manager, North Eastern Coalfield,Margherita. The organization excavates coal from its own captive mines and the coal samples are sent to the Central analytical Lab, Margherita for testing. The lab tests the coal samples. and issues test reports to the. This document is the result of a workshop on coal description held for the Branch of Coal Resources of the U.S. Geological Survey in March It has been prepared to aid and encourage the field-oriented coal scientist to participate directly in petrographic coal-description activities. The objectives and past and current practices of coal description vary widely. Collected cuttings were cast in epoxy and polished following the procedures outlined in Pontolillo and Stanton (). One mount was made for each sample. Measurement of random vitrinite reflectance in immersion oil (R o ran) was performed according to the ASTM D standard for coal .
